What Lies in the Woods

From Amazon

Naomi Shaw used to believe in magic. Twenty-two years ago, she and her two best friends, Cassidy and Olivia, spent the summer roaming the woods, imagining a world of ceremony and wonder. They called it the Goddess Game. The summer ended suddenly when Naomi was attacked. Miraculously, she survived her seventeen stab wounds and lived to identify the man who had hurt her. The girls’ testimony put away a serial killer, wanted for murdering six women. They were heroes.

And they were liars.

For decades, the friends have kept a secret worth killing for. But now Olivia wants to tell, and Naomi sets out to find out what really happened in the woods―no matter how dangerous the truth turns out to be.

Starts out great, drags a little in the middle then ends great.

Three best friends Naomi, Olivia and Cassidy are playing in the woods when one night something horrific happens. Naomi is attacked and stabbed seventeen times. It's a miracle but she survived.

Years later Naomi returns to her hometown to see her best friends after the man accused of stabbing her and being a serial killer dies in prison.

Olivia brings up the past and a secret that the friends share. A secret that could destroy everything for them.

The novel is told in the point of view of Naomi. She's kind of an unreliable narrator due to the fact that she honestly can't remember much of what happened to her in the woods. She's hoping that the right man went to prison but she starts to question everything which puts her and her friends in danger.

A few red herrings later and we find out the truth. I did enjoy the twist but had to slog through some filler to get to it.

The thing that annoyed me was the constant mentions of the goddess game the girls used to play. The main character really made things way more difficult for herself. She lies through most of the book not only to herself but the police. If she would have gone to the police she could have saved herself a huge headache.

All in all I did enjoy the book so I gave it 4/5 stars 🤩
