Things have been wrong with Mr and Mrs Wright for a long time. When Adam and Amelia win a weekend away to Scotland, it might be just what their marriage needs. Self-confessed workaholic and screenwriter Adam Wright has lived with face blindness his whole life. He can’t recognize friends or family, or even his own wife.
Every anniversary the couple exchange traditional gifts--paper, cotton, pottery, tin--and each year Adam’s wife writes him a letter that she never lets him read. Until now. They both know this weekend will make or break their marriage, but they didn’t randomly win this trip. One of them is lying, and someone doesn’t want them to live happily ever after.
Ten years of marriage. Ten years of secrets. And an anniversary they will never forget.
When I decided to start a book blog, I decided I would pick this book as my first to write about because I enjoyed this book immensely. The husband of the book has face blindness which means he is unable to distinguish between people whether it be friend or family.
This book sat on my shelf for a long time because I wasn't too sure about it. The book alternates between the present with the couple on their weekend trip attempting to save their marriage and the past. There's also alternating perspectives between the husband and wife. There are also letters written by the wife to the husband on their anniversary each year. They start out hopeful but soon you realize something is not right.
Stop reading if you don't want spoilers...........
You were warned..........
The book gets really interesting when strange things start to happen at the house that they are staying in. A mysterious woman seems to be stalking the couple. The twist in this book had me so dumbfounded that I had to go back several pages and reread several pages. Then I just sat there stunned. After I managed to get past that twist they just kept coming. The secrets kept coming and changing. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, wham nope there's another twist.
SPOILERS on the twists below
The first twist that blew me away was the fact that the wife in the book is not actually the one who wrote the anniversary letters but the 2nd wife of the husband. The first wife is the creepy woman spying on them and messing with their heads the whole time. I did not see it coming. I'm sure there are people out there who did but nope not me, completely blindsided.
The second twist comes in the side story of the husband whose mother was killed in a hit and run. You go through the entire book thinking that you know who that did but find out it was him all along who accidentally killed his own mother.
All in all, this book was incredible and have since suggested it to all my friends. I've since read several other of the author's books and they are just as enjoyable.
Thank you for reading my very first blog ever. I hope to have many more to come. If you want to pick up the book here's the link to amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Paper-Scissors-Alice-Feeney-ebook/dp/B08QGLNSFK
